Create Your Own Luck with These At-Home St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Ideas

March 2nd, 2021

St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated for over 1,000 years by people across the globe, and while celebrations have certainly changed over the centuries, they’ve always taken place in large groups and social settings. This year will be just one of a handful in which we will be forced to keep celebrations small and at home. Much like 2020, there will be no parades, no crowded bars, and no streets turned seas of green with spirit wear. This doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t still have fun. In fact, you can create your own festivities — and drum up some luck in the process — in your own home and with some help from AAA.

Bring the Festive Drinks to Your Backyard
With a bit of food dye and the beverage of your choice, you can easily mix up St. Patrick’s Day drinks that will rival those of your favorite bars. Enjoy a green beer under the stars with your significant other, or cheers friends and family over FaceTime.  If you do go out, remember to always drink responsibly.

Put Together a Feast
No celebration is complete without a proper feast. Traditional St. Patrick’s Day fare includes beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, and Irish stew, but why stop there? Make some sugar cookies and dye the dough green. Bake an Irish apple cake or try your hand at soda bread pudding. Go authentic or as untraditional as you like — there are no rules for this year’s festivities. The goal is to enjoy yourself, and what better way to do so than through a spread of good eats?  Dine-in or take-out from AAA partners Landry's Restaurants and Hard Rock Cafe.  Don't like to bake?  Shop the 1800Flowers Family of Brands to help with your sweet tooth.

Hunt for Gold
Unless you know of sunken treasures buried near you, you’re going to have to get creative for this one. For a more literal approach, create a list of actual gold items you can find around the house or in your neighborhood. For a more liberal approach, identify items that are “gold” to you and your loved ones, then see who can find the best deal on it through AAA. This particular activity can lead to huge savings and big fun.

Don’t Forget to Wear Green
Just because you won’t be seeing a bunch of people this St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t mean you should forego the most enduring of St. Patrick’s Day traditions: wearing green. Add a touch of green to your outfit via socks, a t-shirt, a necklace, or a fun hat to show off your Irish spirit as you Zoom with coworkers or facetime with family members.  Find discounts on apparel, footwear and accessories at AAA discount partners like Tanger Outlets and Reebok Outlet Stores.

However you choose to celebrate, celebrate in the most cost-effective way possible. Use your AAA membership to search for discounts and rewards from leading brands to save big on party preparations.
